This document pertains to NYC customers only.

When your school imports guardian information from the ATS RCON report, every adult contact on the report carries two codes: a Relationship Code describing how the adult is related to the student, and an Authorization Code describing what that adult is authorized to do. JumpRope uses both codes to decide which contacts become Family Accounts and how each contact is labeled.

This article defines both code sets and explains how the filters built on them behave. To retrieve and import the file itself, see How to - Retrieve the RCON file from ATS and How To - Import NYC RCON (ATS) Contact Information.

How JumpRope uses these codes

Your school has two optional filters that are applied while the RCON file is being read:

  • Authorization Code filter -- only contacts whose Authorization Code is on your school's list are imported.

  • Relationship Code filter -- only contacts whose Relationship Code is on your school's list are imported.

A contact must pass both filters to be imported. Contacts that are filtered out are not created as Family Accounts and do not appear as Family Contacts.

If a filter is left empty, no filtering is applied for that code and all values are accepted.

The Relationship Code is also what populates the Relationship field you see on a family contact in JumpRope. The Authorization Code is used only for filtering; it is not displayed as its own column. [VERIFY: confirm Auth Code is not surfaced as a column in any Admin - Family Accounts view.]

Note: These filters control which contacts are imported. They are not permission settings and they do not change what an adult can do once they have a Family Account. ATS remains the source of truth -- see Managed Family Accounts.

Authorization Codes

Authorization Codes describe what an adult is authorized to do for the student.

Three abbreviations appear inside the code descriptions:

  • EMC -- Emergency Contact

  • APC -- Authorized to Pick Up Child

  • SM -- School Mailings

The codes are:

Code Meaning
01 Disciplinary Contact with EMC/APC/SM -- Primary
02 Disciplinary Contact with EMC/APC
03 Emergency Contact with APC/SM
04 Emergency Contact with APC
05 Authorized to Pick Up Child (APC)

An Authorization Code does not limit the number of recipients

This is the most common point of confusion. The same Authorization Code can be attached to many different people for one student. A single student can have a mother, father, step-parent, sibling, and two grandparents all carrying Authorization Code 01.

So restricting your school's import to a single Authorization Code does not mean each student will have one contact. It means each student will have every contact that carries that code. If your goal is to reduce the number of accounts or message recipients per student, filtering on Authorization Code alone will not reliably achieve it.

Relationship Codes

Relationship Codes describe how the adult is related to the student. ATS may write these as one or two digits (1 and 01 both mean Mother).

The table below shows the ATS code, the label ATS uses, and the label JumpRope displays.

Code ATS label Displayed in JumpRope as
01 Mother Mother
02 Father Father
03 Grandparent Grandparent
10 Sibling Sibling
11 Other Relative Relative
12 Step Parent Step Parent
13 Surrogate Parent Surrogate Parent
14 Foster Parent Foster Parent
15 Agency Agency
16 Ward of State State Ward
17 Other Legal Guardian Legal Guardian
18 Non-Relative Non-relative
19 Emancipated Youth Emancipated Youth

Four labels are worded differently in JumpRope than in ATS (codes 11, 16, 17, and 18). The meaning is the same; only the wording differs. A code that is not in this list is imported with an empty Relationship.

Viewing your school's current code filters

Your school's active Authorization Code and Relationship Code filters are shown on the information banner in Admin > Family Accounts.

  • If Relationship Codes are listed, only those codes are imported. If the banner shows All (no filter) , every Relationship Code is imported.

  • If Authorization Codes are listed, only those codes are imported.

Requesting a change to your code filters

These filters are configured by JumpRope, not edited by school administrators. To add or remove a code, email support@jumpro.pe with your school name and the codes you want imported.

When requesting a change, note:

  • Removing a code deactivates existing accounts. Contacts that no longer match the filter are deactivated on the next import, and those guardians lose portal access and stop receiving messages. Confirm the change with school leadership before requesting it.

  • Changes take effect on the next RCON import, not immediately.
