Scoring scales determine how teachers will enter scores for standards in their gradebook. Each Standard Type in JumpRope has a Scoring Scale associated with it. This article will explain all of the functionality contained within a scoring scale.
A Scoring Scale has three sections: Scoring Options, Scoring Levels, and Scoring Level Thresholds
Scoring Options
By default, JumpRope uses numerical values to represent student performance on standards. However, we can also use letters and short phrases to represent student performance.
Code Scoring
With Code Scoring enabled teachers will use letters rather than numbers to score students' performance on standards. (Code scoring may affect the ability to display code values on Assessment Detail chart)
Mastery Labels
Rather than display a calculated numeric value for the standard mastery, Mastery Labels allows a range of scores to be represented by a letter or short phrase. (Using Mastery Labels may affect the ability to display code values on Assessment Detail chart)
Allow Intermediate Scores
When using numeric values (Code Scoring disabled) Allow Intermediate Scores will allow teachers to input values that are between the different scoring Levels.
Scoring Levels
Scoring Levels are like the columns on your rubric. They define what scores teachers are allowed to give students when scoring standards. (Scoring Criteria in JumpRope creates rubrics for scoring based on the Scoring Levels)
Scoring Level Title
The scoring level title is the word or short phrase that represents what the Scoring Level means. Examples might be: "Not Yet", "Approaching", "Meeting", or "Exceeding"
Scoring Level Value
This is the number for the Scoring Level. Each Scoring Level Value must be unique in the Scoring Scale. The lowest number must be 0 or 1 and the maximum value is 100. A Scoring Level Value is always required even if Code Scoring and Mastery Labels are enabled and students will never see a number.
Scoring Level Code
The field Scoring Level Code will only appear if Code Scoring is enabled for the Scoring Scale. Scoring Level Codes are the letter that teachers will enter in their gradebook that represent the Scoring Level.
Codes must be a single letter and must also be unique within the scoring scale and cannot overlap with any Missing Work Codes used at the school or district.
Scoring Level Mastery Label
The field Scoring Level Mastery Label will only appear when Mastery Labels are enabled for the Scoring Scale. The Mastery Label is the letter or short phrase that can represent the scoring level on Mastery Reports.
Scoring Level Mastery Labels can be a maximum of 15 characters. To display the whole Mastery Label on a Progress Report the Mastery Bars must be turned off. If the Mastery Bar is enabled the Mastery Label will be truncated and only show the first three characters.
The Scoring Level Thresholds determine what Mastery Label is displayed based on the value JumpRope calculated for the standard's mastery score.
Scoring Level Color
Each Scoring Level has a color associated with it. Multiple Scoring Levels can have the same color but each color must be continuous in its use.
For example, a Scoring Scale with four Scoring Levels could have the following color scheme: Red, Yellow, Green, Green. However, it is not permitted for the color scheme to be Red, Yellow, Green, Yellow.
Scoring Level Thresholds
Between each Scoring Level, there will be a Scoring Level Threshold. For Example, a Scoring Scale with 4 Scoring Levels will have 3 Scoring Thresholds. The Label for the field will be the Title of the two Scoring Levels combined.
The Scoring Level Threshold is the number that applies to calculated standard mastery scores. It determines when the color and/or Mastery Label changes based on the score that JumpRope calculated for a standard.
The Scoring Level Threshold Indicator will demonstrate the effects of changing the colors and Scoring Threshold Values.
