Absence Codes
In order for attendance history to be accurate, all absence codes must be configured correctly. For detailed information, see Absence Codes
Several fields in Attendance History are calculated based on the flags set in the Absence Code (ABS) table. Absence codes are set up on Attendance Accounting > Configurations > Update Absence Codes. Changes to absence codes are picked up the next time Attendance History is updated (Update All Schools Now or the nightly process).
Absence codes flagged Partial Day > 30 Minutes Truant, or with Type of Attendance Unexcused absence - verified, count toward the Attendance History Truancy count. The count includes any day on which the student has a period or all-day code with either setting, unless that code is also flagged Suspension. A day is counted only once, even if several periods are truant.

Absence codes flagged Suspension but not flagged Count for ADA count toward Days of Suspension. The count includes any day on which the student’s all-day attendance code is one of these codes.
Absence codes flagged Suspension and Count for ADA count in the Days In School Suspension field in Attendance History. They do not count in Days of Suspension. In Texas, in-school suspension days are also counted as present.
Absence codes with Independent Study set to Complete Independent Study count in the ADA Generating Independent Study Days field in Attendance History.
Absence codes with Independent Study set to Incomplete Independent Study count in the Non-ADA Generating Independent Study Days field in Attendance History.
All other counts are based on the all-day attendance code and its Type of Attendance:
- Absent: Unverified, Excused absence - verified, or Unexcused absence - verified.
- Excused: Excused absence - verified.
- Unexcused: Unverified, or Unexcused absence - verified.
- Tardies: Tardy to class, Excused tardy - verified, or Unexcused tardy - verified.
Codes flagged Suspension are counted as Absent but never as Excused or Unexcused. Days with a code flagged Temporarily Not Enrolled are left out of both the enrolled and absent counts.
