Schools with master schedules track the attendance of students in each course by section. When a student is scheduled into a section of a course, the Start Date and End Date for their attendance in that course is added to the Course Attendance Record (CAR) table. Course attendance (CAR) is stored separately from the student's class schedule (SEC); when changes are saved on the Classes page, Aeries updates both. CAR is maintained for schools that keep Course Attendance records.

The CAR table contains a record of every section of a course that every student is enrolled in throughout the school year. CAR keeps one record for each section the student was in. Each record holds the section, period, course, teacher, Start Date and Stop Date. The Start Date is the first day the student was enrolled in that section. For many students, the Start Date will be the first day of the school year. The End Date is the last day the student was enrolled in the course. The End Date is the end date of the section's term, as set up in the school's terms. For a Y (year) term, this is usually the last day of the school year. For other terms (for example, 1 or F), it is the last day of that term. If the student drops the course or changes sections on the Classes page, the End Date for the dropped section is the school day before the Start Date entered on Classes.

To view a student's course attendance, navigate to Student Data > Scheduling > Course Attendance. The Course Enrollment History displays each course that the student was enrolled in. The dates displayed under the Start Date and Stop Date columns indicate the date the student started the class and the date the class term will end or the date the student dropped the class. To see only the classes the student was in on one date, enter the date under Display Classes for a Single Date and click Refresh. Users with Update permission to Course Attendance can change these records on this page; the Stop Date must be a school day after the Start Date and can't be left blank.
