How to populate a CALPADS Batch Template file with the data from a CALPADS Extract (.txt) file.
Step 1: To populate a Batch File Template with the data from a CALPADS extract, open the extract file and select all (CTRL+ A) of the data and Right Click > Copy.
Step 2: Open the Batch File Template, if prompted click the Enable Editing button near the top of the screen, and paste (CTRL + V) data in Cell A2 of the template. Batch File Templates are available on the CALPADS website. (https://documentation.calpads.org/Support/FileTemplates/)
Step 3: Leaving the pasted data highlighted/selected from the navigation ribbon click on the Data tab and then click the Text to Columns options from the Data menu.
Step 4: In the Convert Text to Columns Wizard [1] select Delimited > click next, [2] check the "Other" box > populate the field with a carat (^) > click Next, [3a] in the data preview area scroll all the way to the right [3b] while holding the Shift key, left-click the last column which will highlight all of the data [4] select Text > click Finish.
Step 5: A pop-up alert will display, click OK and the data from the extract file is now correctly formatted within the Batch Template File and aligned with the template headings.
