A score of "U" on a mastery report means "unscored." If is often accompanied by an empty or light blue mastery progress bar, and it generally means that there is not enough data to compute a numeric or code-based output score. In other words, it is the system's representation of a "divide by zero" error. This can happen in the following scenarios:
- All underlying assessment scores are missing (with an empty value) and thus a score cannot be calculated.
- All underlying assessment scores have a weight of zero, and thus a score cannot be calculated.
- All underlying standards or standard types have zero weight, which is most often because only non-academic work habits standards are scored when the work habits standard type carries zero weight.
- In rare cases, this can happen because your school has set up a custom calculation or conversion that has special requirements related to calculating a score (e.g. your school asked our product team to configure the system so that "only calculate a score for the standard if at least three summative scores exist" or "only calculate a class grade if five or more standards have been scored in the class").
To get more information, click or double-click the score in question from a mastery report. Then, expand to see individual standard and assessment scores within the class or group that was scored as a U. Once expanded, you can see the individual scores (often alongside their standard type, assessment type, and/or weight) so that you can understand the reason the score cannot be calculated.
To resolve this, enter at least one score that carries a value (e.g. not "missing, no value") for an assessment that has a weight greater than zero within a standard type or category that has a weight greater than zero.
In the uncommon case that your school has custom logic set up (see #4 above), be sure that you've met the custom data entry requirements for your school's configuration.
