Students can check in to a Supplemental Attendance session by scanning a room's check-in QR code with the Aeries Mobile Portal app. Check-ins from the app use the same Supplemental Attendance student sign-in rules as the Parent/Student Portal, including the option to only allow check-ins from the school's network.

Account type warning

Class check-in is a student feature. Class Check-In appears only when you log in to the app with a student account, and only if the student's Portal Group has permission to Supplemental Attendance Data (ATD). You will not see it if you are logged in with a parent account.

Before students can check in

On the Supplemental Attendance Configuration page, check Enable Student Room Sign-In. The Supplemental Attendance program must also allow Student Sign-In. For more information, see Supplemental Attendance Data - Student Sign In.

To print a QR code for each room, run the Supplemental Attendance Sign In Scan Sheets report (View All Reports, Supplemental Attendance category) and post each room's sheet in that room. The school's Parent/Student Portal address must be set up for the report to print the codes.

Checking in

Tap Class Check-In on the bar at the bottom of the screen. If you are not checked in, the screen shows two buttons:

  • Scan – opens the camera. Point it at the room's check-in QR code. You are checked in as soon as the code is read, and the app shows the room and session, for example You are now checked in to Room 12 - Study Hall. If the room has more than one session, pick the session from the list and confirm. The first time you scan, allow the app to use your camera.
  • Check In To Another Room – lists the available sessions so you can pick one and confirm, without scanning.

If the check-in is not allowed, the app shows the reason, for example Session does not meet today. or Current Time is outside of Session Times.

Checking out

To check out, open Class Check-In again. It shows the room you are checked in to. Tap Check Out and confirm. Checking in to a different session also checks you out of the one you were in. If you check out less than 1 minute after checking in, the system assumes you made a mistake and no time is recorded (Checked out within a minute, no time recorded for this room.).

Security considerations

To stop students from checking in remotely, for example from home, set the Range of IP Addresses to allow to use Student Sign-in on the Supplemental Attendance Configuration page. Check-ins from any other address fail, and the student sees the message entered in Custom text for failed login attempts by students. The range must match the address Aeries sees for the device (usually your school network's internet address). By default, all addresses are allowed.

The IP address range applies to every check-in from the app, whether the student scans a code or picks a room from the list.
