Import Standards-Based Grades from Gradebook
Overview
Navigate to Standard Based Grades > Configurations > Standards.
The Standards page is used to define all Standards that will be used in Standard Based Grade Reporting or that will be available to the teachers to use in their gradebooks. In schools where SBG grading is enabled in school options, an option is available that will allow a standard to have a different Mark Type applied to different Terms. The option is called Use Term Based Mark Types and when enabled, additional fields will display allowing the user to select individual Mark Types to link up to 4 Terms. Each Term can have a different mark type assigned.

Standard Based Options ↑
When the setting Use Term Based Mark Types is enabled, the Valid Marks will need to be assigned a Mark Type of 1-Achievement, 3 - Progress Toward Standard, or a new district-defined Mark Type which can be configured in the Standard Based Options page.
On the Standards Based Options > Mark Types tab, add the district-defined Mark Types that will be used in SBG Grading and Gradebooks.
On the Standards Based Options > Valid Marks tab, add the Mark Type and Valid Marks for each grade level by selecting a grade level radio button, a Mark Type from the drop-down, and then click Add New Record. Enter the Mark Value, Low Percentage, High Percentage, Low Rubric, High Rubric, Not Taught and Show in Legend options. When the portal option for Require Teachers to use Standards' Mark Types for Assignment Scores (SBG Gradebooks Only) is enabled, two additional fields, Gradebook Rubric Score (SBV.GBR) and Gradebook Percentage Score (SBV.GBP) will become available on the Valid Marks page. These fields will need to be populated and are required when this portal option is enabled. See Portal Options section below for more information.
Valid Marks can be copied from one grade level to another using the Copy Grade to Another Grade button.
Standard Configurations ↑
When setting up Standards, different individual Mark Types can be selected and applied to each term (up to 4 terms). The option Use Term Based Mark Types must be enabled in order to see the additional fields that are used to store the Mark Types for each Term. When these options are enabled, teachers will have available the appropriate Valid Marks in their Standard Based Grades and Gradebooks depending on the Term.
To assign different mark types to different terms, select a Standard from the Standards page, in edit mode, select the option Use Term Based Mark Types. Additional fields will display for each Term 1-4. Select a Mark Type from the drop-down for each Term. If Trimester terms are used, Term 4 can be left blank.
In this example, the setting has been enabled and Terms 1 and 2 are set for Progress Towards Standard while Term 3 is set for Meeting Standard.
The Term Based Mark Types dropdowns are limited to the following Mark Types:
Mark Type 1 - typically the "Achievement"
Mark Type 3 - typically the "Progress Toward Standard"
Mark Types 10 and higher - custom mark types
Standard Based Templates ↑
The Standard Based Templates have also been modified to include these new settings. Enabling the Use Term Based Mark Types and assigning Mark Types to various Terms will SAVE in this page and will also be saved in the Standards page. Changes made to these new fields in the Standards page will also reflect in the Standard Based Templates page.

Display Only Marks for Teacher, Parents and Students (Applies to SBG Grades and Gradebooks)
When the option Display Only Marks for Teacher, Parents and Students (Applies to SBG Grades and Gradebooks) is enabled, all existing and new Standards Based Grades gradebooks in this school will apply the following:
- The Gradebook Option Hide the Overall Percentage/Trend Analysis will be enabled and read-only.
- The Gradebook Option Display the Final Mark will be deselected and read-only.
- Gradebook assignments will only display their mark values.
- Final Marks will be in Read-Only mode and therefore will not have the Restore School Recommended Defaults button or the Display the Final Mark to Me option.
The following popup window will display to confirm the selection. Click OK to continue with the change and apply the default gradebook options. Click Cancel to de-select the option and not apply the default gradebook options.
To continue with setting this school-wide option, select OK, then select the SAVE button at the bottom of the Portal Options page.
In the teacher's Gradebook on the Options tab, the two options displayed below will automatically be set for the teacher and will not be editable.
Require Teachers to use Standards' Mark Types for Assignment Scores (SBG Gradebooks Only)
A school has the option to enable the setting Require Teachers to use Standards' Mark Types for Assignment Scores (SBG Gradebooks Only) which will require the teachers to use the mark types setup from the Standards Based Option page. This portal option will change the scores field to a drop-down where only marks defined in the Standards Based Options page will become available. When the option to Use Term Based Mark types is enabled for a Standard, the drop-down list of mark values in the Gradebook Assignments will change depending on the term assigned and the assignment's due date.
When the Portal Option Require Teachers to Use Standards' Mark Types for Assignment Scores (SBG Gradebook Only) is used the Gradebook Rubric and Gradebook Percentage columns in the Standards Based Options > Valid Marks tab must be populated with numeric values that will be used to calculate gradebook assignment and overall scores and standards based reporting grades.
On the Gradebook Scores by Class , Scores by Assignment, Scores by Student and Scores by Standards pages the score fields have drop-downs that align with appropriate mark values available to the teacher when using this new portal option. The following Scores by Class example shows that assignment for Standard CEL.4.RL.6 is pulling mark type values that are assigned to Term 2 because the due date of 2/24/2022 falls into Term 2. The Standard CEL.4.RF.3 has a due date of 06/17/2022 which falls into Term 3 so Mark Type values will display in the drop-down which are assigned to Term 3 for this standard.
Standards Based Grades marks that are flagged as Not Taught will not appear in the Gradebook score dropdowns. In the below example the NS code is flagged as Not Taught in the Standards Based Options > Valid Marks page and does not appear in the score dropdown on the Gradebook Scores by Class page.
Initialize Standard Based Grading Cycle ↑
When the Standard Based Grades are initialized, the process sets the Mark Type field (SBG.MT) to 0 if Use Term Based Mark Types (STN.ATI1) is enabled.
Standards Based by Teacher ↑
On the Standards Based by Teacher page, teachers will see the Mark Values in a drop-down list that correlates with the appropriate Mark Type and Term according to the Standards page. The drop-down will display a list of the appropriately defined Mark Values for the specified Standard.
The Mass Add Marks button will include the SBG mark types according to the appropriate term and will only display the mark value when the portal option is enabled.
Import Standards-Based Grades from Gradebook ↑
The Load Grades from Gradebook process will allow teachers to load their grades from their Gradebook when using SBG Grading. The Valid Marks will pull from the Standards Based Valid Marks (SBV) table and will display all Valid Marks by Mark Type. When the portal option to Display Only Marks for Teacher, Parents and Students is enabled, the Mark Types will be in read-only mode and numeric values will be hidden on this page.

Final Marks
When the Portal Options > Grades > Display Only Marks for Teachers, Parents and Students (Applies to SBG Grades and Gradebooks) option is selected, then the Final Marks tab in SBG gradebooks will display SBG marks and will be in read-only mode. This means that the Restore School Recommended Defaults button and the Display the Final Mark to Me option will not be available in SBG gradebooks when this Portal Option is selected.
When the gradebook contains students with multiple grade levels, a drop-down will display with those grade levels allowing the user to select a grade level to be assigned to the gradebook. The grade level option will be stored in the Gradebook Options (GBO) table and will be used to determine the Final Marks.
If no students are in the Gradebook, the grade level drop-down list will come from the School Options setting for SBG Grades.
Edit Gradebook
The Overall Standard dropdown is available to elementary teachers that use Standards Based Grade Reporting. The dropdown is populated with the grade level report card standards that are set up to receive a Mark value. The Overall Standard is saved to the Gradebook Standard (GBK.SD) field and is used to populate assignment score dropdowns for any assignments that are not associated with a standard or do not have "Input by Standard" selected in the assignment.
When the Portal Option Require Teachers to Use Standards' Mark Types for Assignment Scores (SBG Gradebook Only) is used the score fields on the Scores by Class, Scores by Assignment, Scores by Students and Scores by Standards page will change to drop-downs that align with appropriate mark values available to the teacher based on the assignment Due Date.
