Students must follow the course sequence in a pathway. Due to State reporting requirements, LEA's will be unable to pass the validations for certification if students complete the courses out of order.

The Career Pathway Dashboard is used to identify, select and mass assign a Current Academic Year record as students reach specific milestones within a Career Pathway. These milestones are categorized as Concentrators and Completers within a multi-year pathway. Only students who have reached these milestones are reported to CALPADS and are included in the SCTE EOY1 extract file.

The example below displays how to set up the options within the Career Pathway Dashboard in order to identify each of these type of students.  Pathway code 201 - Food Service and Hospitality, is a three year course sequence where the courses post to transcripts twice a year for Fall (Term 1) and Spring (Term 2).

Please note, Transcript Term numbers as defined within the Transcript Definition Form are unique to each District and may be different from the example provided below. Also, the courses used in this example are for visual display only and may not reflect actual courses that a District may offer for this pathway.

How to Identify Concentrators

Students that complete 50% of a pathway are considered Concentrators. In a three year pathway students that complete the Introductory and Concentrator courses, in the exact course sequence, would qualify for this milestone and SCTE EOY1 reporting.

The following options need to be selected within the Courses For This Pathway In This School section of the Dashboard. At the end of the school year, once final grades have copied into transcripts, the student should have two semesters of Intro Hosp (CN 0505- Introductory) and must have two semesters of ROP Food Management (CN 0858 - Concentrator) listed in their transcripts.

If the pathway is funded, the Introductory courses may be mandatory. Please consult with the District's funding source's contact or CTE Coordinator to determine if applicable to the pathway.

  • Show in Completed Course column pulls courses from Transcripts (HIS).  CN 0505 and CN 0858 are selected to verify that the student completed these required courses.
  • Show in Current Course column pulls courses from the student's class schedule. CN 0858 is selected to ensure the student finished the year in this course. This will also help to identify which students may qualify for this status.
  • Only Display Students with Selected Completed Courses should always be selected.

Students in a multi-year pathway who reach the Concentrator milestone must be given a current year record to be added to the Pathway. The current year pathways record is what indicates to CALPADS the academic year that the student completed 50% of the course sequence of the pathway.  The Concentrator course will be in the transcript the same academic year as when the milestone was achieved.  The option to Include Students Not in This Pathway is selected to identify the students to populate as a Concentrator.

However, if there are concerns that students were not tagged correctly in prior years and the integrity of the historical data, select ALL options. If unsure, it is best to select ALL.

Select the Refresh button once all option selections have been made in order to update the student list.

Look for students that have the Concentrator Course in the Current Course column. The highlighted students who are selected, completed a year of the Introductory course and a year of the Concentrator course. It is important the student completes the Concentrator course the same year the student is given a current year record. This will ensure the student passes the course validation with the reporting status to CALPADS.

Once the students are identified and selected, clicking on the Add Current Year Record will give the students an academic year record. This will insert records to the Career Pathways (CPW) and Career Pathways History (CPH) tables.

The following option will update the list of students that were given an academic year record. Below are the students who will pull into the SCTE file as Concentrators within this Pathway.

How to Identify Completers

Students that complete 100% of a pathway are considered Completers. Students who reach this milestone MUST have completed the Capstone Course with at least a 2.00 GPA average.

The following options need to be selected within the Courses For This Pathway In This School section of the Dashboard. At the end of the school year, once final grades have copied into transcripts, the student should have two semesters of Intro Hosp (CN 0505 - Introductory), must have two semesters of ROP Food Management (CN 0858 - Concentrator) and must have two semesters of CN 0860 - ROP Food Srv Oc (Completer/Capstone) in their transcripts.

Valid Mark validation is allowed with Capstone courses. Students who earn a 'D' in a level 3 course one term, but then at least a 'B' in another term, will average at least a 2.00 GPA. This student would still qualify since the minimum GPA requirement within this course has been met.

  • Show in Completed Course column pulls courses from Transcripts.  CN 0505, CN 0858 and CN 0860 are selected to verify the student completed these required courses.
  • Show in Current Course column pulls courses from the student's class schedule. CN 0860 is selected to ensure the student finished the year in this course.  This will also help to identify which students may qualify for this status.
  • Only Display Students with Selected Completed Courses should always be selected.

Students who are completing a multi-year Pathway must have been a Concentrator in a prior academic year and the following option to Include Pathway Students from Past Year within Students In This Pathway At This School applies in this case.

However, if there are concerns that students were not tagged correctly in prior years and the integrity of the historical data, select ALL options. If unsure, it is best to select ALL.

Select the Refresh button once all option selections are made in order to bring in the student list.

Look for students that have the Completer Course in the Current Course column. The highlighted students, who are also selected, completed a year of the Introductory course, a year of the Concentrator course and a year of the Capstone course. It is important the student completes the Completer course the same year the student is given a current year record. This will ensure the student passes the course validation with the reporting status to CALPADS.

Marking students as Completers is a two-step process. They must first be given a Current Academic Year Record by clicking on Add Current Year Record

The following option will update the list of students that were given an academic year record.

If Concentrators were identified first, both types of students will appear when the above option is selected. However, the Completers will have more courses in the Completed Course column and those are the students that will be selected again.

The second step in marking students as Completers, after they have been given a Current Year Record, is to select the Mark Selected Students Completed buttonThis will update the CPW.CM field showing the student has completed this pathway.

The following option will list the students that were given an academic year record and marked as completed. Below are the students who will pull into the SCTE file as both Concentrators and Completers within this Pathway.

How to Read the SCTE File

SCTE file will include and students that are tagged as Concentrators and Completers. Below is how to identify which students are being reported to CALPADS as Concentrators and Completers.

Students with only the three digit pathway code are Concentrators.

Students with the three digit pathway code and the academic year record are Completers.
